Hubert R. Marleau
Honorary Chairman, IVIP

Mr. Hubert R. Marleau is a Co-Founder of Palos Management and continues to provide invaluable expertise and vision. With over 30 years of experience in the business and financial community, Mr. Marleau has raised funds privately and publicly for hundreds of emerging and mature companies, structured many mergers and acquisitions as well as designed and created numerous financial deals in Canada. Mr. Marleau has worked at the senior executive level of several large investment banks notably, Nesbitt Thomson Inc., Levesque Beaubien Inc. and Marleau, Lemire Inc. During his career, Hubert was a governor of the Toronto Stock Exchange, the Montreal Stock Exchange, and the Vancouver Stock Exchange, a director of the Investment Dealer Association of Canada and Board member for a multitude of publicly traded companies. Mr. Marleau graduated from the University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Economics.

Karim Babay
Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer, IVIP

Mr. Babay founded Intrinsic Value Investment Partners (IVIP) in 2009 as a hedge fund platform. IVIP is a global investment management firm with a value oriented approach. Prior to IVIP, Mr. Babay was a Partner at Foxhill Capital Partners LLC, a distressed/event driven hedge fund founded in 2005. Mr. Babay served on Foxhill’s investment committee. Prior to Foxhill, Mr. Babay spent 6 years at Lehman Brothers in various capacities including investment banking and proprietary trading. Mr. Babay was a member of Lehman’s global mergers and acquisitions group from 2001 to 2003 where he completed several transactions. In 2003, Mr. Babay joined Lehman’s proprietary trading desk as a senior investment analyst responsible for generating and executing trading ideas in both the debt and equity markets. Prior to Lehman Brothers, Mr. Babay worked in various managerial positions in the textile and sanitary ware industries. Mr. Babay holds a MBA from Columbia Business School and a bachelor of science from IHEC Institute. Mr. Babay also is on the board of directors of the Arab Bankers Association of North America. Mr. Babay is fluent in English, French and Arabic.

Dr. Valentin Katrandzhiev
Political Analyst, IVIP

Dr. Valentin Katrandzhiev is an expert in the field of international relations and diplomacy. He has majored in International Relations at Kiev University in 1989 became a contributor to the Institute of Contemporary Social Theories to the Bulgarian Academy of Science. In the 90’s he served as visiting professor at Sofia Marketing-Management College, and as consultant-interpreter in “Classen Group Bulgaria Ltd.”, Canadian Financial Investment Company. While in Classen Group he conducted a marketing project on the possibilities of security printing services for clients of the emerging Bulgarian stock markets. During 1998-2000 Dr. Katrandzhiev was awarded a doctoral fellowship to the Russian People’s Friendship University in Moscow, where he defended a dissertation on the theory of the “Clash of Civilizations”, launched by the illustrious Harvard professor Samuel Huntington. In 2001 he researched at the Mediterranean Diplomatic Academy in Malta in the field of crisis diplomacy. From 2002 until 2007, he worked for DiploFoundation (a leading think-tank in the field of diplomatic research and training) as a knowledge management program coordinator. Dr. Katrandzhiev research interests and tutoring experience in DiploFoundation cover also fields of public diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, diplomacy of the European Union, and diplomacy of non-state actors. During the period 2008-2010 Dr. Katrandzhiev was a chief expert with the Strategic Studies Department at the Diplomatic Institute to the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he provided strategic analysis and consultancy for Bulgarian foreign ministry, president’s office and the Foreign Policy and Defense Commission at the National Parliament. Dr. Katrandzhiev is also is a visiting professor at South Western University “Neofit Rilski” in Bulgaria where lectures on Foreign Policy of the European Union, and Russian Foreign Policy. Dr. Katrandzhiev has contributed numerous articles to periodicals and specialized journals. He is co-editor of the book “Multistakeholder Diplomacy: Challenges and Opportunities” (2006) and an author of book “The European Union’s Foreign Policy” (2011). He has as an excellent command of Bulgarian, English and Russian. Since 2010, Dr. Katrandzhiev serves as a political analyst for Intrinsic Value Investment Partners (IVIP).
